 Biography

I undertook my nursing training at Charing Cross Hospital in London in 1979 specialising in Intensive Care before commencing my Midwifery Training at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford in 1986. My career in Midwifery has been extensive and varied including working as a Sister on Delivery Suite at the John Radcliffe for 10 years 1990-2000 during which time I also worked part time in 2000 as a Research Midwife with Professor Redman on pre-eclampsia research . With an interest in the care of   women at increased risk during pregnancy I worked as a sister in the Fetal and maternal Medicine Unit in Oxford undertaking training in Ultrasound in 2004.

I joined the Nuffield Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2008 as a Research Midwife supporting the setting up of the Oxford Pregnancy Biobank and participating in a study with Cyathus to identify the role of the biomarker Pentraxin 3 alongside the use of Uterine Artery Dopplers in identifying women at increased risk of developing pre-eclampsia.

Current

I currently work as a Midwife Sonographer at the John Radcliffe Women's Centre in Oxford alongside my role as a Research Midwife in the Nuffield Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the OSPREA department (Oxford Safer Pregnancy Alliance). I am currently working on a prospective feasibility study  OxWATCH  (Oxfordshire Women and Their Children's Health) which is seeking to understand the impact of a first pregnancy on the long term health of women.
