Research Assistant

As a Research Assistant, I work with Dr Joris Hemelaar on a project that aims to elucidate the immunological mechanisms underlying adverse perinatal outcomes in HIV-infected mothers. The project is nested in the INTERBIO-21st study where biological samples have been collected in well-characterised HIV positive and HIV negative mothers throughout pregnancy. It is hoped that the study will lead to a better understanding of immune responses associated with HIV infection in pregnancy, by which HIV may cause IUGR and PTB.
